WEG Principal Economic Advisor Comments on Job Growth

In a July 6th Sun Sentinel article by Marcia Heroux Pounds, Tony Villamil, WEG's Principal Economic Advisor and Dean of the School of Business of St. Thomas University, said it will take at least three years to return to the state's "total employment" level of late 2007. Villamil attributes this to construction employment being down by 268,300 in Florida, and still losing jobs, he said. Villamil also noted that even though job growth is slow in Florida, more diversified firms in South Florida related to international trade and that have a global market experience will do better than those that are dependent on local spending.
