Construction Industry Slowed Down Employment in South Florida

Economist Villamil says the slump in the building industry is rippling through the state’s economy, including retails sales. He expects the downturn will cut back on Florida’s economic activity through next spring and summer 2008.
“It’s not a crash, but it’s going to feel that way because we had very strong levels of economic activity in the last several years due to a boom in real estate and construction activity after the hurricanes,” said Tony Villamil, CEO of The Washington Economics Group in Coral Gables.
