Miami-Dade County's economy is suffering the effects of the housing sales slump, though sustained performance in tourism, international trade, and office-condo and warehouse construction is helping cushion the blow, economists say.
"Housing sales are causing a significant ripple effect through the economy," said Tony Villamil, CEO of The Washington Economics Group in Coral Gables. "We are dealing not only with declines in sales of furniture and appliance sales and housing materials, but it also impacts consumer net worth and consumer confidence."
